WMNR Underwriting Representative

WMNR has an opening for a part-time, paid position as an Underwriting Representative. Underwriting refers to the paid announcements from businesses and non-profit organizations that are heard on public radio. Underwriting income provides support for the programs and operations of WMNR Fine Arts Radio.


The Underwriting Representative participates in the renewal of existing underwriter contracts and prospects for new contacts and contracts. He or she will be responsible for establishing underwriting packages, setting rates, and ensuring compliance with FCC regulations.  He or she prepares copy approved by each underwriter that meets FCC and WMNR guidelines.  The Representative then announces/reads and records the materials for on-air broadcast and schedules the copy for broadcast. He or she will identify new opportunities for corporate support such as event sponsorship. The Representative works with the General Manager to meet revenue goals.  The Underwriting Representative is also expected to be part of the on-air broadcast team that solicits donations during live fundraising campaigns.


Education/Qualifications:


- Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience in sales or related field(s)

- Ability to work independently and carry out the responsibilities of the position with limited direction

- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact well with public and internal personnel

- Outstanding organization skills and computer literacy

- Knowledge and fluency in Microsoft Office, ability to provide comprehensive communication skills

Job Description for Underwriting Representative


Reports To: WMNR General Manager


SUMMARY:

Functions as WMNR’s Underwriting representative. This includes participating in the renewal of existing Underwriters as well as prospecting for new contacts. Responsible for establishing underwriting packages, setting rates, and ensuring compliance with FCC regulations.  Prepares copy approved by each underwriter.  Records and schedules the copy for on-air broadcast. Identifies new opportunities for corporate sponsorships such as event sponsorships. Works with the General Manager to meet the revenue goals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Well-managed, highly organized, creative underwriting efforts that consistently meet WMNR’s financial goals.  Maintains  an excellent relationships with WMNR business supporters.

- Manages a personal portfolio of underwriting clients and participates in all aspects of underwriting sales.

- Researches and locates new, potential underwriters and works with them to establish an effective underwriting plan on WMNR.  Prepares and gives presentations and appropriate underwriting materials to potential clients.

- Communicates and cultivates relationships with current underwriters throughout the year.

- Ensures that all underwriting credits are within the guidelines of WMNR’s Underwriting Policy and any other pertinent WMNR policies … and that all underwriting credits are within the boundaries of FCC regulations and the recommendations of WMNR’s FCC attorney.

- The WMNR Traffic System is fully understood and optimized. Accurate reports are regularly made.

- Responsible for working with the General Manager, the Membership Director and the Operations Director for creating efficient and effective on-air Fundraising drives. 

- Consistently acts with the highest standards of journalism, business ethics, and personal integrity. Serves as an excellent ambassador for WMNR, both formally and informally.

- Involved in on-going professional development for the benefit of WMNR.

- Be able to present themselves in a neat, professional manner.


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential Skills: organizational skills. Demonstrated creativity. Superb writing and presentation skills and keen ability to relate to corporate clients. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
