Theater Review - Macbeth (NY)

Alan Cummings has found a way to ruin one of the most dramatic of all of William Shakespeare’s works: “Macbeth.”  Setting this play in an insane asylum makes no sense and I could not understand many of the lines. The beautiful wording and much of the plot are obscured. One time in a bath tub is enough. The last attempted suicide was gratuitous.  I will keep in my mind Antony Sher’s magnificent performance at the Long Wharf Theatre.  At the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
